Is there such a thing as being too trustworthy?

Tue Aug 11, 2009, 4:40 AM
The point of this journal is to get an answer to a very difficult question, and that question is: Is there such a thing as being to trustworthy?

I guess to get to the bottom of this; we need to start with a little story.

Our story starts just shortly after spring break 2009. A young had been broken up with her exboyfriend Brad for at least a week. Sure they talked form time to time, but nothing to serious because the mere sight of him made her want to vomit. They had mutual friends that she stayed in touch with after the break up and one of them seemed to take a particular liking in her, which she found rather flattering. This one particular soul was named Jordan.

Jordan had begun to take a liking to the young girl a few months before she had separated herself from Brad when he spotted that they were not getting along like they once had. Once the separation was final, he moved in to help pick up the pieces of her broken heart, though she showed no sign of needing help recovering. The girl rather fancied the boy named Jordan; she always had, though she knew not why. It could have possibly been his intellect, or his sense of humor, she simply did not know, or maybe it was his ever growing distaste for her ex that made him so much more attractive in her eyes then he had been as just her friend.

You see, Jordan and Brad use to be the best of friends with each other as well as with another, Dusty. All thought the three boys had their different views on life and other topics they had a close friendship that is until the day the Dusty did the unthinkable. Jordan and his sister had been allowing Dusty to live with them while he worked and looked for a place of his own; they trusted Dusty to be respectful in their home. One day, that trust was shattered. Jordan found that one of his beloved sister's guns was missing and was astonished to find that it was in Dusty's truck. This greatly upset Jordan because he had trusted Dusty and he had stolen from him. Jordan and his sister turned Dusty out for stealing and lying the next day.

Dusty, without any other place to go, turned to his long time friend Brad for help. The girl discouraged Brad from allowing Dusty to stay in his dorm, but Brad would not listen to her, this caused a strain on their already broken friendship. Brad's choice to allow Dusty to stay with him also caused a strain on the friendship between Brad and Jordan. Jordan did not like that Brad would so willingly allow someone who would steal from his own friends to stay with him and turned to the girl for friendship while leaving Brad and Dusty to their lives.

One day after the girl had taken an afternoon shower; Jordan came knocking on her dorm room door. She was not dressed to entertain at the moment and turned him away. Jordan insisted that she open the door and let him in for several minutes until, reluctantly, she opened the door to allow the boy entrance. He kept his eyes away from her towel wrapped body as he asked to borrow her shower because he had been playing with his friends in the field and was in need of a cleaning. The girl allowed him to use her shower as she got dressed.

Once they were both clean and clothed, the girl settled down to work on her studies while Jordan sat around watching the news and doodling on scraps of paper. The boy hung around for several hours, flirting and playing nice with the girl. She was flattered by his attention, even more so when he invited her to attend a movie with him and some friends. Throughout the night, Jordan continued to flirt with the girl until they arrived back at her dorm room. The flirty lead to playful touches and gentle kisses until though found themselves lying in each other’s arms on her bed questioning themselves on what they had gotten into. After several hushed words being exchanged, they were soon engaged in a sexual act that delighted them both.

Now, the girl thought for sure that Jordan's words of his feelings were true and he honestly meant that he liked her. Come the summer time, she found out she was wrong. Upon a conversation with Jordan over the internet, she discovered that the night they shared together was nothing more than a ploy for Jordan to get back at Brad for choosing to keep Dusty as a friend. The news devastated her, leaving her to wonder if Jordan had ever really felt attracted to her in anyway. The news left her thinking of the other times she had been used by men for their own selfish gratification, left her wondering if this would be what her life would be like until her death.

She had trusted Jordan's words, trusted him with all her heart. It was true; she had done everything that night for him because she had feelings for him when he had had none. This left her to wonder if she were to trustworthy. She knew that many people came to her when they needed help because they knew she would help them in any way possible. Is that why Jordan had done what he had, because he knew she would help with his devious plot? Was she so trustworthy that people felt they could use her?

With this is mind, I ask you the question: Is there such a thing as being too trustworthy?

If you don't put a meaning behind the word - the word itself becomes meaningless.
